While everyone has been planning a getaway amid this pandemic, our Muslim community is seeking a sacred journey. We have been eager to return to Makkah and perform the religious pilgrimage—Umrah. After all, it allows us to escape from the hustle and bustle of daily routine and spend some time connecting with the creator and the divine.

All praise to Allah, Saudi Arabia has started accepting travel requests by international visitors for Umrah. However, you need to follow a set of rules and regulations laid down to avoid the spread of the coronavirus.

Umrah Visa Requirements 2021

You must submit a completed original Umrah visa application form. Please carefully read and sign the statement written towards the end of the application. In case you have a non-Muslim name, you need to get a certificate that states you are a Muslim. This certificate can be obtained from a mosque or an islamic center.

Here are a few additional factors you need to consider before and/or during your journey:

Passport Size Photo

When applying for an Umrah visa, attach the latest passport size colour photo, clicked on a white background with your application. Ensure that the image is shot to give a full view; side or angled views won’t be accepted. Your passport needs to be valid for 6 months at the least from the date of submission.


Please note that you will receive a confirmed and non-refundable airline ticket. International visitors with Umrah visa are expected to depart from Saudi Arabia within two weeks from the date of entry. If you are not the national of the country you are applying from, you will have to submit a residency permit along with your application.


It is mandatory that women and children are accompanied by husband/father or a male relative (Mahram). You will also have to attach a marriage certificate for a wife and birth certificate for a child as proof.


Women who are 45 or older can travel without a male relative, provided she travels with an organised group or family, and submits a notarized No Objection Certificate from her Mahram.

King Fahd’s Fountain is reputed to be the world’s tallest fountain and it is visible from all across the city of Jeddah. Rising against the backdrop of the Red Sea, this fountain is 312 metres high and shoots water at a speed of more than 350kph. The best time to view this fountain is at night with all the colourful illuminated lights. You can enjoy this mesmerising view at its best from Jeddah corniche.


It is mandatory for all international visitors to attach a vaccination certificate against Meningococcal meningitis. Your vaccination certificates should be valid for 3 years and should be issued at least 10 days prior to entering Saudi Arabia. You are also required to carry the certificates along on entry to Saudi Arabia. All guests must also show proof of vaccination

(vaccine certificates for COVID-19) with one of the following vaccines:

  • 2 doses of Pfizer BioNTech
  • 2 doses of Oxford AstraZeneca
  • 2 doses of Moderna
  • 1 dose of Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen

COVID-19-Related Rules in Saudi Arabia for International Visitors

  • Guests traveling from Saudi Arabia’s airport must present the (Tawakkalna) App, which shows the state of your health. According to the rules and regulations of the General Authority of Civil Aviation, it is mandatory to share a proof of good health.
  • Visitors must check the eligibility for travel by their own respective countries and receive the required permits, if any.
  • Guidelines are subject to change without prior notice. Hence, please stay updated with the changing conditions and guidelines in Saudi Arabia from official and authorised sources.
  • International visitors must obtain a PCR certificate that matches with your travel documents from an accredited examination center in Saudi Arabia.
